Spokesperson for Ambicare Health comments:
"During the lengthy evaluation process Ambicare has worked extensively with key clinicians to further develop the product, which has resulted in significant enhancements to Ambulight PDT.
Through direct feedback from key opinion leaders we have already implemented many of the suggestions included within the NICE report, which will be delivered in a second generation device launched later this year. The Ambulight PDT Multi is a reusable, rechargeable device that will allow multiple lesions to be treated at the same time resulting in cost savings of up to 75 per cent in comparison to the pilot device.
We welcome the range of recommendations from NICE and its recognition that Ambulight PDT enables treatment 'to be delivered into a community setting' and may 'cause less pain than conventional PDT in some patients.
The Ambulight offers elderly patients and those with mobility issues an alternative to lengthy journeys to hospital and long out patient sessions, which directly addresses the Government's wish to ensure that everyone, whatever their need or background, can benefit from the treatment.
In addition, the company has developed a set of health economic tools to help commissioners work locally in line with 'The Health and Social Care Bill 2010-2011', which will bring improved patient choice and care in the community.
The device is perfectly designed to work within the proposed system, which focuses on personalised care reflecting individuals' health and care needs, and will help to ensure patients have the right to their choice of treatment, regardless of ability to travel.
The firm will continue to work with the NHS and NICE to build the evidence base of this new technology with the long term goal of it being routinely available for all patients.
Service providers wishing to introduce the treatment should contact Ambicare directly info@ambicarehealth.com. Patients should discuss suitability for Ambulight PDT with their healthcare provider.
