David Lawrence

Non Executive Chairman

David Lawrence is Non Executive Chairman of Ambicare. David was previously CFO of Acambis PLC, a LSE and Nasdaq listed company which is now part of Sanofi, with responsibility for Finance, Strategy, Investor Relations and Business Development.

Before Acambis he was VP Finance of Chiron Vaccines which is now part of Novartis. David spent thirteen years with GlaxoSmithKline, latterly as VP - Financial Management R&D. David is also a Non Executive Director at QSpine Ltd, a spinal implants company.

Dr Andrew McNeill

Director & Principal Scientist

Dr Andrew McNeill is Director and Principal Scientist. Andrew has been instrumental in the development of the Ambicare products, CE marking and company accreditation to ISO 13485. Andrew previously worked as part of a pan-European consortium of academic institutions and companies and obtained a PhD in molecular electronic devices.

In 2003 he moved to St Andrews to work as a post-doctoral researcher in the area of phototherapy before joining Ambicare Health. Andrew also currently holds an honorary research fellowship at Ninewells Hospital Dundee.

 

Gary Conroy

Sales & Marketing Director

Gary Conroy is sales and marketing director at Ambicare. Gary has previously held a number of research and commercial roles in the life sciences industry.

Gary has extensive experience in the private, public and consumer healthcare markets with a strong focus and expertise in dermatology.

Immediately prior to joining Ambicare Gary was Head of Aesthetic Dermatology at sanofi-aventis where he was responsible for leading the sales and marketing teams for the UK and Ireland.

 

Robin Finlayson

Investor Director

Robin is the Investment director representing Longbow Capital investors. He is a partner in Longbow Capital LLP. Currently he is the Director of Fund Advisory Services at City Partnership ( UK ) Ltd , a multi-discipinary professional services business in the Fund Management sector.

Formerly he was a Tax Partner at Ernst & Young where he was also Head of Entrepreneurial Services for Scotland and Northern IrelandRegion and Office Managing Partner in Edinburgh.

Since leaving Ernst & Young in 1999 he has been involved in Venture Capital fund management and is a founding partner of Longbow Capital where he was an executive partner until November 2011. At Longbow he was responsible for the investment activity and monitoring in Scotland as well as the Finance and Compliance functions. He was also a co-founder of a £25m venture capital investment company which was subsequently managed by Longbow.

 

Sandy Allan

Non Executive Director

Sandy Allan is a director of Ambicare Health representing Scottish Enterprise. Sandy was previously CEO of Scottish Health Innovations and is now acting Chairman. He is a partner in The Whipps Consultancy which offers regulatory and management expertise.

Sandy has been involved in company start ups in the UK and Europe and has secured investment from VCs and private investors and managed successful exits. He is also Chairman of bioNova s.l., a Spanish life sciences distribution company.

 

Neil MacGilp

Non Executive Director

Dr MacGilp has decades of medical and consumer healthcare technology experience, including more than 30 years with Proctor & Gamble and SAB throughout Europe and the US. Most recently he founded InnoGenis, a consultancy dedicated to technology and innovation coaching.

He has a proven track record in transforming technology into commercially successful products, and has thorough knowledge of the organisational approach required to achieve this success.

 

Professor James Ferguson

Founder

Professor Ferguson is Consultant Dermatologist and Head of the University Department of Dermatology in Dundee; he is also responsible for the Scottish Photobiology Diagnostic and Treatment Advice Unit, which houses the Scottish Photodynamic Therapy Centre. His MD thesis was on the subject of Drug-induced Photosensitivity.

 

Professor Ifor Samuel

Founder

Professor Samuel leads the Organic Semiconductor Centre at the University of St Andrews. His research focusses on organic semiconductors and their applications, with particular emphasis on light-emission and measurement.

Recent research highlights include the development of the world’s most efficient solution-processed light-emitting diodes (LEDs), compact plastic lasers, and the use of organic LEDs in medicine in collaboration with Prof Ferguson.

His work is internationally recognised and he has published more than 250 articles in the scientific literature.
